The health of our farm is inextricably intertwined with the health of the broader ecosystem.

We are committed to caring for our country and raising cattle with respect. Our grazing enterprise is built on sound land stewardship, where healthy pastures come first and cattle are calm, quiet and well-handled. By working with nature and managing our land responsibly, we produce pasture-bred beef of integrity—good for the soil, good for the animals, and good for the community.

Looking after our land has always been our priority, especially tree cover and riparian areas.

Sometimes it takes looking back through old photographs to see just how far we’ve come.

At West Deighton, we are dedicated stewards of the landscape. Over the past four decades, more than 15,000 trees — including around 8,000 iconic Plains Red Gums — have been planted on our Meerlieu property alone. Tom’s Creek, which winds its way through our country, has been carefully fenced off and its chain of ponds restored.

These efforts have been recognised with numerous Landcare Awards over the years, but the greatest reward lies in watching a Sea Eagle fishing along Tom’s Creek.

Numerous native tree corridors have been planted over the years and riparian areas fenced off, these precious natural vegetation areas form part of the living fabric of our farm.
